I am a very passionate teacher. My work in the field of education has spanned over a decade. I first studied education at the University of Washington with a focus on Early Childhood and Elementary Education. After graduation, I was eager to apply my skills and moved to South Korea to teach English. When I returned to Seattle, I taught at a Montessori Preschool. During this time, I was accepted into the teaching program at Seattle University where I received a Masters in Teaching. As a public school teacher, I’ve taught middle school Math and Art and, most recently, fifth grade Math and Science at Decatur Elementary in Wedgwood.
I have a lot of experience developing curriculum. While teaching in South Korea, I built a literacy curriculum for English language learners. In 2017, I worked with a small team to develop the first set of Computer Science standards for the Seattle School District. As a classroom teacher, I am constantly adapting lessons and units to best fit my students’ needs.
Other current interests of mine are gardening, exploring Seattle parks, reading, learning new things, and trying to be the best mom for my young daughter.
I am in awe of the magic of childhood and have spent most of my life raising and teaching children. While raising four kids of my own, I learned so much about childhood development and the uniqueness of each child’s personality and needs. While my children were in school, I served as the Parent Coordinator of our co-op. During this time, I took courses in Early Childhood Education.
Over the past few years, I have provided care for two of my grandchildren. In addition to this incredibly rewarding task, I work at a music school for young musicians. It has been wonderful to witness so many of these students achieve their musical aspirations.
These experiences have inspired me to team up with my daughter and start a preschool program that tailors to the needs of students transitioning into kindergarten. This is such a crucial time for building confidence, blossoming creativity, and becoming a “big kid”.
In my spare time I enjoy going to music shows, learning about health and nutrition, puzzling, and spending time with my family and pets.
